What it is
Door and Window Sensor P2 is a two-piece contact sensor. The main body and magnet are mounted on adjacent moving and fixed surfaces so that an ecosystem can report a change between open and closed states.
Why the design matters
The narrow rounded bodies suit door, window and cabinet frames, while an additional flat magnet supports tighter installation conditions. The product communicates over Matter over Thread instead of joining an Aqara Zigbee network directly.
Verified specification and dependency record
- Protocol: Matter over Thread
- Required infrastructure: a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router
- Power: one CR123A lithium primary battery
- Installation: adhesive mounting; main sensor and magnet aligned across the opening
- Platform behaviour: supported conditions and app features vary by ecosystem
- Aqara Home path: current Aqara guidance identifies Hub M3 for adding Aqara Matter-over-Thread devices to Aqara Home
Thread is only part of the setup
A Thread radio alone is not enough. The chosen app needs Matter-controller capability and the network needs a compatible Thread border router. Multi-admin sharing, automation conditions and advanced settings can differ between Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant and Aqara Home.
It reports state; it does not secure the opening
The sensor can provide an open-or-closed input for notifications and automations, but it is not a lock, barrier or guaranteed intrusion alarm. Adhesive condition, alignment, radio availability, battery state and software delivery all affect whether an event appears.
Battery and maintenance
Aqara specifies a CR123A battery and notes that life varies with the Thread border router and connected Matter apps. The cited current page does not state cell capacity, so none is inferred here. The primary cell is not rechargeable and should be replaced and disposed of according to current instructions.
What ChinoMuse has not verified
ChinoMuse has not installed, paired, opened, battery-tested or tamper-tested the sensor. Notification latency, adhesive removal, battery life and ecosystem-specific features remain untested by ChinoMuse.
