What it is
CEWO is a conceptual chair created by PINWU in 2023. The official record identifies Christoph John as chief designer and describes a structure made from 105 reclaimed ceramic fragments from Jingdezhen and 69 pieces of reclaimed wood from PINWU’s woodworking studio. The fragments are cut, reorganised and tied together so that ceramic and wood become one continuous seating form without being visually disguised.

Why the construction matters
CEWO treats the connection as part of the material argument. Ceramic and wood differ in hardness, thickness, edge behaviour and breakability, yet the visible lacing allows small pieces to form a larger surface. PINWU describes the chair as one temporary stage in the materials’ life cycle because the stitching can be cut and the pieces can be assembled again. That is different from melting or grinding the materials back into raw feedstock.
How to read the form
The chair’s patchwork surface should not be mistaken for a printed finish. Individual ceramic imagery, timber grain, drilled holes and connecting thread remain visible. The official photography supports identification of this construction, but photographs cannot establish how the chair flexes, how edges are protected, how weight is distributed or how individual fragments would be replaced.

CEWO should therefore be understood here as a documented design work, not as a conventional retail listing.
